Celebrating 35 Years of Success

Oriental Arts would be sorely missed if they were no longer active in the region, as they have transformed the once non-existent Asian entertainment scene in Bradford to provide a platform to promote the rich and diverse activities and events on offer.

They have been involved in many events over the years and are even responsible for the annual Bradford Mela (a Sanskrit word meaning ‘to meet’). What had once been a gathering of people in 1988 is now a two day international festival, attracting up to 200,000 people, and celebrates the city’s diverse cultural heritage, both in general but also focusing on the Asian communities. It has been so successful that they now advise other towns and cities on how to plan theirs.

There is a long list of what Oriental Arts is responsible for, including establishing the Bhangra music scene in Bradford, promoting well known artists such as Ravi Shankar, and they were also involved in the creation of the Mughal Water Gardens in Lister Park, Bradford.
