Built in 1912 by Francis Laidler as a place to celebrate family entertainment, the door opened for the first time in 1914 and has since played host to some of the biggest names in showbiz history. Famous entertainers who have taken to the Alhambra stage include Laurel & Hardy, Arthur Askey, Tommy Cooper, Joanna Lumley and Colin Firth.
This bright collection includes posters, scripts and programmes for a variety of performances, many of which were written by Francis Laidler until his death in 1955.
The Alhambra Theatre is still home to some of the country's best loved shows today meaning this collection will continue to grow in its richness and diversity – it truly is a treasure of the archives - ‘Oh no it isn’t’ ‘Oh yes it is’!!
